Launch of the communication campaign on the 50 years of the CAP with the participation of José Manuel Barroso and Dacian Cioloș
On 23 January 2012, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Dacian Cioloş, Member of the EC in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, attended the interinstitutional event which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) with Mette Gjerskov, Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and President in office of the Council of the EU, and Paolo De Castro, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development of the EP.
In his speech the President brought to mind that this policy helped to modernize European agriculture thorough. He also stressed the role that a reformed CAP would play in supporting growth and employment.
The EC thus launched the CAP@50 communication campaign to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Common Agricultural Policy, a cornerstone of European integration, that had provided European citizens with half a century of food security and a living countryside. The year-long communication campaign included an interactive website, an itinerant exhibition, audio-visual and printed materials, as well as a series of events in Brussels and the Member States.
