Statement by Cecilia Malmström following her visit to Egypt: EC Midday press briefing
On 24 March 2011, Cecilia Malmström, Member of the EC in charge of Home Affairs, made a statement during the EC Midday press briefing in Brussels, to present the outcome of her trip to Egypt.
She discussed with the Egyptian authorities the possibility of establishing a partnership on mobility in areas like asylum, migration and border control.
She also expressed her concern about the situation of third country nationals who were stuck at the borders because they had nowhere to go. She asked the Egyptian authorities to let these people enter Egypt and announced that she would organise a meeting to discuss their possible relocation in Europe.
