Eurostat annual conference on statistics for policymaking: Europe 2020: extracts from the opening of the conference with the participations of José Manuel Barroso, Janez Potočnik and Pier Carlo Padoan, Deputy Secretary-General and Chief Economist of the OECD
On 10/03/2011 in Brussels, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, opened the Eurostat annual conference entitled: "Statistics for policymaking: Europe 2020", jointly with Janez Potočnik, Member of the EC in charge of Environment, and Pier Carlo Padoan, Deputy Secretary-General and Chief Economist of the OECD.
The aim of the conference was to bring together politicians and statisticians in a dialogue about how to shape statistics underpinning policy making and political decision making. The conference focused on the role of statistics in policymaking and political decision-making, using the Europe 2020 strategy as a case in point. It discussed the role statistics plays in the formulation of the strategy and the role it will have in its implementation.
