Visit of a delegation from the Russian government to the EC: extracts from the joint press briefing by José Manuel Barroso and Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister
A delegation of the Russian Government visited the European Commission in Brussels in February 2011.
On 24/02/2011, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister, gave a joint press briefing after the visit. They both condemned the Libyan government's crackdown on demonstrators, and deplored the victims across the Arab world.
Talks covered a wide range of issues including trade, energy, human rights and the crisis in North Africa. The leaders welcomed the substantial progress made on the EU/Russia Partnership for Modernization.
José Manuel Barroso highlighted the importance of EU/Russian partnership in terms of the human rights. Vladimir Putin also mentioned the visa free regime issue. The Russian government held talks with the European Commission every two years since 2004. The initiative was part of a series of measures designed to improve communication and cooperation between Brussels and Moscow.
