Competitiveness Council, 3049th session: extracts from the joint press conference by Jean-Claude Marcourt, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister of the Walloon Government and Minister for the Economy, SMEs, Foreign Trade and New Technologies and President in office of the Council, and Antonio Tajani
On 25/11/2010 in Brussels, Jean-Claude Marcourt, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister of the Walloon Government and Minister for the Economy, SMEs, Foreign Trade and New Technologies, chaired the 3049th session of the Competitiveness Council, in the presence of Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship. They gave a joint press conference after the meeting.
The EU Ministers in charge of Industry discussed the implementation of two flagship initiatives of the Europe 2020 strategy for the creation of jobs and growth: the main elements for a new industrial policy and the Innovation Union, intended to improve conditions and access to finance for research and innovation.
Most countries welcomed the initiatives, underlining the importance of such contribution to the European competitiveness, internally and externally, and to the will to have a common and global response to the European industrial policy, facing world competitors like China, India, Brazil or Russia and the US.
