On 09/11/2010 in Brussels, Štefan Füle, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, presented the adoption of the EC's 2010 Enlargement Package. This presented the Commission's annual assessment of the European Union's enlargement agenda. It outlined the current state of preparations, the challenges ahead, and the way forward for the Western Balkans, Turkey and Iceland. The Commission proposed Candidate Status for Montenegro, and recommended that accession negotiations with Montenegro and Albania should be opened, once these countries had met a number of key priorities set out in the opinions. The Commission confirmed that Croatia was entering the final phase of its accession preparations. As Serbia's EU membership application was being processed. The Commission renewed its 2009 recommendation that accession negotiations with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia should be opened, and reconfirmed the European perspective for Bosnia Herzegovina and for Kosovo.
