On 28/09/2010 in Brussels, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, opened the Eurofi Financial Forum 2010 on EU financial reform.
He made the case for strong European financial markets, competing fairly and winning on a global level playing field.
The financial sector had benefited from a lot of solidarity, and it was time to return the favour by showing great responsibility, and no one should underestimate the sense of injustice that Europe's citizens feel today, he told the audience. Other participants to the opening session were Didier Reynders, acting Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Institutional Reforms and President of Ecofin, Guy Quaden, Governor of the National Bank of Belgium, Wolf Klinz, Member of the EP and Chairman of the Special Committee on the Financial, Economic and Social Crisis; and Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell, Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB). They gave opening speeches at this occasion.
