Visit of Brian Lenihan, Irish Minister for Finance, to Joaquín Almunia
On 6 September 2010, Brian Lenihan, Irish Minister for Finance, paid a visit to Joaquín Almunia, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Competition, in Brussels.
They discussed the implementation of the EU's stability and growth pact, levy on banks and tax on financial transactions that will be at the centre of the discussions between the Economy and Finance Ministers of the EU.
They discussed specifically about the situation of recapitalisation of Anglo Irish Bank. The state-owned reported 8.3 billion in losses on dud loans for the first half of 2010, a figure that raised more questions about the government's ability to keep supporting the Dublin-based lender. SHOTLIST
