On 20 July 2010, Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport, presented plans for reducing the number of road deaths on Europe's roads by half in the next 10 years, in addition to the latest results of a Eurobarometer survey on road safety in the European Union. The road safety action programme 2001-2010 has helped to save thousands of lives all over Europe through a variety of measures focussing on making improvements to vehicles, infrastructure and road users' behaviour. The European Commission outlined in the European Road Safety Policy Orientations 2011-2020 how it plans to make roads even safer. The Eurobarometer survey conducted in all Member States found out what people feel are the most important road safety issues and what measures they want.
