Meeting between José Manuel Barroso, László Andor and Social Partners: round table and extracts from the common press briefing
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, met with the European social partners on 04/06/2010 in Brussels, to discuss the next steps to growth and employment in the current economic crisis.
The President of the European Commission once again underlined the need for fiscal consolidation and structural reforms in the 27 European countries.
Employers and trade union representatives stressed the importance of stimulating growth. But while trade union warned about using possible means and methods to make their voice heard, the employers' representative said the last thing Europe needs was social unrest if it wanted to rebuild confidence.
José Manuel Barroso, John Monks, Secretary General of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), and Philippe de Buck, Director-General of BusinessEurope, gave a joint press briefing after the round table and the working breakfast. SHOTLIST
