Green Week 2010: extracts from the common press conference by Connie Hedegaard, Tim Jackson, Mrs Bee and Elena Espinosa Mangana
On 4 June 2010 in Brussels, Connie Hedegaard, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action, Mrs Bee, High Representative of the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Community, Elena Espinosa Mangana, Spanish Minister for Environment, Rural and Maritime Affairs, and Tim Jackson, Professor of Sustainable Development in the Centre for Environmental Strategy at the University of Surrey, concluded the closing session of the Green Week.
The large annual conference on European environment policy was the occasion to turn the spotlight on biodiversity. Over some 30 sessions, the conference addressed the state of biodiversity and nature in Europe and the world, the benefits they bring, present-day pressures on them, and possible solutions to the current rates of loss. The path to be taken by EU policies on biodiversity and nature policies post-2010, the economic dimension of biodiversity, ecosystem services and Natura 2000 were also investigated. SHOTLISTLINK
