Brussels hosted on 27/05/2010, the first Forum for Outermost Europe, sending a strong political signal to reassert that the nine Outermost Regions were fully part of the European Union. The purpose was to raise awareness within the European institutions, and in EU Member States of these regions’ specific characteristics and potential into real growth opportunities. 2010 was a pivotal year for these regions with the current discussions on the EU budget, the future cohesion policy after 2013, and the new economic strategy for Europe by 2020. Michel Barnier, Member of the EC in charge of Internal Market and Services, gave a speech during the Forum.
