Environment Council, 3002nd meeting: extracts from the joint press conference by Elena Espinosa Mangana, Spanish Minister for Environment, Rural and Maritime Affairs and President in office of the Council, and Connie Hedegaard
After the morning session of the 3002nd meeting of the Environment Council in Brussels, where conclussions were adopted on biodiversity, the EU Ministers for Environment focused conclusions on climate change. They evaluated the outcomes of the Copenhagen climate conference, and stressed the opportunities for immediate implementation offered by the Copenhagen Accord. They requested the Commission to present a study of the comparability of greenhouse gas emsision reductions offered by third countries, as well as an impact assessment of the EU's conditional move to a 30% emissions cut.
They also debated for the first time, the proposed regulation setting CO2 emissions standards for light vans, so as to guide further work on this file.
