Extracts from the joint debate on the Modernisation of the global financial architecture, EP Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs with National Parliaments
ECON (Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs) was organizing a high-level inter-parliamentary debate on the following topic, such as the Modernisation of the global financial architecture, on 17 March 2010 in Brussels. Participants were EP Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs with National Parliaments. This year's debate received special attention, as it was the year when the European Union decided on its future strategy for growth and jobs until 2020. This also was one of the main topic at the EU Heads of State or Governement meeting in Brussels the week after. Therefore, the first half day of the debate focused on this topic. The second half day focused on global economic governance and financial stability and supervision. During these two days, Members and representatives from national parliaments, had the opportunity to have an exchange of views with Mario Draghi, Governor of the Bank of Italy and Chairman of the Financial Stability Board, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Michel Barnier, Member of the EC in charge of Internal Market and Services.
