Informal Development Ministers meeting: extracts from the common press conference by Kristalina Georgieva, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Andris Piebalgs and Edmond Mulet
EU Ministers and Secretaries of State, along with Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, and Crisis Response, Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Edmond Mulet, Head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), took part in the Informal Meeting for Development, which was held in La Granja (Segovia, Spain) on 17 and 18 of February 2010 under Soraya Rodríguez, Spanish Secretary of State for International Cooperation.
They focused on the preparation of the New York meeting on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), scheduled for September 2010. The effectiveness criteria for development aid, the international division of labour, and innovative financing mechanisms in fiscal governance for development, were also been discussed.
Also, Europe's highest authorities on Cooperation and Development examined the EU's forthcoming initiatives in relation to coordinating humanitarian aid in Haiti, and the reconstruction plans for the Caribbean Country devastated by an earthquake on 12 January 2010.
