Extracts from the keynote address by Günter Verheugen during the 5th Economic Policy Committee (EPC) debate "EU Innovation policy, time to step on the gas"
On 22 September 2009 at the 5th Brussels Debate "Innovation policy: time to step on the gas", Günter Verheugen, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Enterprise and Industry, underlined how innovation can help EU enterprises emerge from the current recession stronger. He also made declaration about the "European Innovation Act" scheduled for 2010.
The debate took place in the framework of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009. The re-launched Lisbon Partnership for growth and jobs has put innovation and entrepreneurship at the centre and called for decisive and more coherent action by the Community and the Member States to foster them. On this basis, an ambitious European innovation policy has been launched and the Small Business Act has been agreed, and this partnership approach has already borne fruit. Almost all Member States have improved their innovation performance. SHOTLISTLINK
