Extracts from the statement by José Manuel Barroso on the aid granted to France following Hurricane Klaus
At a press conference on 29 May 2009 in Brussels, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, confirmed the European Commission's proposal to allocate aid totalling 109.4 million euro following the devastation caused by Hurricane Klaus in south-west France in January 2009. This aid will be used to repay the cost of emergency measures, such as relief operations, cleaning up the affected areas, and repair of basic infrastructures.
It shows that other Member States are displaying their solidarity to France, and proving once again one of the reasons why they have the European Union. SHOTLIST
