Statement by EP Rapporteurs and Commission on the telecoms package in electronic communications, plenary session of the EP
The agreement reached on the three telecoms reports covers the regulatory framework, including radio spectrum measures, users' rights, data privacy and the creation of a body to step up co-operation between national regulators to tackle telecoms regulation. The package aims to boost competition and consumer rights and should encourage investment in next generation fibre and wireless networks.
Members of the EP reached a political agreement with the Czech Presidency on the revision of the electronic communications framework and on setting up of a new Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC).
Parliament and Council have reached a second reading agreement on the report on electronic networks, personal data and protection of privacy.
