Extracts from the press conference by Siim Kallas on the presentation of the 2010 Preliminary Draft Budget
On 29 April Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Administrative Affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud and Financial Programming and Budget (pro term), held a press conference in Brussels on the EU budget 2010.
The key focus of 2010 spending will be the shaping of Europe's recovery and stimulating growth, Siim Kallas told journalists.
The European Commission adopted a €139bn preliminary draft budget for 2010. Economic recovery was at the heart of following year’s spending and the proposal channeled the biggest share of funds (45%) into growth and employment measures – a 3.2% rise on 2009 – to help restore competitiveness across the European Union.
