Extracts from the joint press briefing by Olli Rehn and Antonio Milošoski, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement, welcomed Antonio Milošoski, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, to discuss the country's EU-accession process following the recent elections. In April 2009, presidential and local elections in the country were carried out peacefully, which was crucial for Macedonian aspirations to join the EU. The ruling conservative VMRO-DPMNE party won a victory in the local elections and the candidate supported by the party, Gjorgi Ivanov, was elected as the new Macedonian president.
