Visit of Chen Deming, Chinese Minister for Commerce, to Catherine Ashton
Chen Deming, Chinese Minister for Commerce, held talks with Catherine Ashton, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, on 30 January 2009 in Brussels.
Talks included WTO issues, intellectual property rights, illegal trade and counterfeiting, as well as the impact of the current economic crisis. Both sides want to try to avoid a further drop in trade and to review each other's economic stimulus plans. These talks took place against the backdrop of several recent anti-dumping decisions against China. The latest one voiced strong dissatisfaction by China's government and industry. In one of the biggest anti-dumping cases against China, the EU made a final decision to slap levies on imports of some Chinese fasteners. SHOTLIST
