Economic and Financial Affairs Council: extracts from the joint press conference by Miroslav Kalousek, Czech Minister for Finance and President in office of the Council, and Joaquín Almunia
The 2919th meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council took place on 20 January 2009 in Brussels.
Miroslav Kalousek, Czech Minister for Finance and President in office of the Council, and Joaquín Almunia, Member of the EC in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs, held a press conference after the Council meeting.
In the light of the financial and economic crisis, the European Ministers for Finance reviewed the implementation of the various economic recovery plans that have so far been put together by national governments. Their discussions were held against the backdrop of cloudy economic forecast published the previous day by the European Commission. Ministers sought to reassure financial markets that they would go back to consolidating public deficits as soon as possible, as Miroslav Kalousek told journalists. SHOTLISTLINK
