Extracts from the joint press briefing by Borut Pahor, Slovenian Prime Minister, and José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Borut Pahor, newly-appointed Slovenian Prime Minister, on 2 December 2008 in Brussels. They held a joint press conference after the meeting.
José Manuel Barroso told journalists that he welcomed Slovenia's positive response and strong support to the European Commission's economic recovery plan, as well as the new government's announcement that it would adopt measures in line with the Commission's proposals. On the border issue with Croatia, Borut Pahor indicated that a solution was being worked out with the French Presidency. He added that if they could do away with any doubt or misgiving that a potential open chapter might prejudice the border between Slovenia and Croatia, Slovenia would have no reservations on supporting further negotiations between Croatia and the EU. José Manuel Barroso said that after that meeting he had good reasons to be carefully optimistic that a solution would be found. SHOTLIST
