The EU Ministers for Foreign Affairs met to finalize their plans for establishing a balanced, closer cooperation with the United States.
On the eve of the US presidential elections, the ministers discussed how the European Union could strengthen political dialogue with the United States to carry more weight in the resolution of regional crises and to intensify transatlantic cooperation for dealing with major global challenges.
Bernard Kouchner, French Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and President in office of the Council of the EU, Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP, and Benita Ferrero-Waldner , Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, gave a joint press conference following the meeting.
