Extracts from the joint press briefing by Neelie Kroes and a delegation of Polish shipyards workers
In Brussels, Neelie Kroes, Member of the EC in charge of Competition, assured a delegation from the Polish trade union Solidarity that the European Commission will do everything it can to bring the long-drawn-out row over the fate of three Polish shipyards to a swift end.
The Commissioner told the members of the delegation and journalists that they are aware of the urgency and that uncertainty is taking too long in this case in Poland. People deserve anyhow a quick decision on what is going to happen.
Neelie Kroes will visit the shipyards herself at an unspecified future date but she refused to give any indication on whether or not the European Commission would approve the rescue plan for the shipyards of Gdansk, Gdynia and Szczecin put forward by the Polish government.
