Visit of Lado Gurgenidze, Georgian Prime Minister, to Peter Mandelson
Lado Gurgenidze, Georgian Prime Minister, was in Brussels on 10 September 2008 for talks with Peter Mandelson, Member of the EC in charge of Trade. They discussed EU/Georgia relations, as well as the current crisis with Russia and the country's economic rehabilitation.
The previous week, Peter Mandelson had said that Russia should not be punished for its military action in Georgia with moves to slow its bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). Russia's longstanding aim of joining the World Trade Organisation has been thrown into doubt as the conflict with Georgia and tensions with the West threaten to reshape the geopolitical order.
