General Affairs and External Relations Extraordinary Council: extracts from the joint press conference by Bernard Kouchner, Olli Rehn and Javier Solana, on the situation in Georgia
Bernard Kouchner, French Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, and President in Office of the Council, chaired an extraordinary meeting of the General Affairs and External Relations Council on the situation in Georgia, in Brussels.
Following this Council, Bernard Kouchner, Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge in office of External Relations and Neigbourhood Policy, and Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP, gave a joint press conference.
Bernard Kouchner has given a report to his European counterparts of his visits to Tbilisi and Moscow with Alexander Stubb, the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chairman in Office of the OSCE, and the meetings between the President of the French Republic with his Russian and Georgian counterparts.
The EU ministers analysed the situation, including the humanitarian aspect, and considered the actions to take to promote a rapid solution to the conflict. SHOTLISTLINK
