Sergueï Lavrov, Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dimitrij Rupel, Slovenian Minister for Foreign Affairs and President in office of the Council, Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP, and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, gave a joint press conference on the EU/Russia Troïka.
Dimitrij Rupel announced that the European Union will reach a consensus on issuing a mandate to start EU/Russian negotiations on a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) in a couple of weeks.
The European Union urged Russia to show restraint in its standoff with Georgia and the breakaway region of Abkhazia.
Javier Solana said that Moscow's decision to send more peacekeepers to the area is not a wise decision. But Sergueï Lavrov answered that Moscow must protect Russian's lives. SHOTLIST
