Extracts from the joint press briefing by Gordan Jandroković, Croatian Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and Olli Rehn
Following their meeting in Brussels, Gordan Jandroković, Croatian Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement, gave a joint press conference.
Gordan Jandroković said that his country was ready to do whatever it takes to meet the criteria for full membership and to become a member of the EU in the year 2010.
He also told that he hopes that Croatia and EU will open two chapters in April and until the end of Slovenian presidency they expect to open maybe four or five additional chapters.
Olli Rehn said that he wants Croatia to open the other chapters. Otherwise it becomes almost impossible to achieve the target date for concluding technical negotiations.
The European Union gave Croatia a timetable by which it wants to conclude entry negotiations by November 2009. However, Zagreb has only opened negotiations on half of the 32 policy areas. PHOTOSHOTLIST
