Eurogroup meeting: extracts from the joint press conference by Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg and President of the Eurogroup, and Joaquín Almunia

Gathering in Brussels for their monthly talks on the economic outlook of the Euro area, the Ministers for Finance of the Eurogroup discussed the Euro strength, the impact of energy prices and inflation expectations. On the Euro strength, Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg and President of the Eurogroup, told journalists during the press conference that the Eurogroup continued to believe exchange rates should reflect economic fundamentals. He added that they still maintained that excessive volatility and disorderly movements in exchange rates were not desirable for economic growth. Joaquín Almunia, Member of the EC in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs, commented the current economic outlook of the European economies.
