Visit of Hussain al-Shahristani, Iraqi Minister for Oil, to Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and extracts of the Joint Press briefing

Benita Ferrero-Walder, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, received Hussain Shahristai, the Iraqi Minister for Oil, for a working breakfast. They discussed about their mutual interest on developing cooperation in different areas and more specifically in the energy field. Hussain al-Shahristani confirmed Iraq's interest on developing the Akkaz gas field to supply Europe through a pipeline that will cross Syria and Turkey. In the long term, it could also feed 450 million million cubic feet per day to the planned Nabucco pipeline. In relation with next OPEC meeting, Hussein Sharistani said that there is no need of increasing oil production as there is no shortage in the market. After their working Breakfast, Hussain al-Shahristani and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, gave a joint press conference.
