Visit of Amin Maalouf to Léonard Orban, and extracts of the Press conference on the report on multilingualism and Intercultural Dialogue
Leonard Orban, Member of the EC in charge of Multilingualism, met with Amin Maalouf, Chairman of the Group of Intellectuals on the Contribution of Multilingualism to Intercultural Dialogue, and gave a joint press conference.
The group set up to advise the European Commission on the contribution of multilingualism to Intercultural Dialogue delivered its report, entitled "A rewarding challenge".
The intellectuals made proposals on how languages can foster intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding, establishing a clear link between linguistic diversity and European integration. They suggested the promotion of a "personal adoptive language", like a second mother tongue, for all Europeans citizens and migrants.
These findings should fuel the discussion at the first-ever Ministerial Conference on multilingualism, scheduled for 15 February. SHOTLISTLINKLINK
