Visit of Stjepan Mesić, President of Croatia, to Olli Rehn, press briefing (extracts)

On 5 December 2007, the day after the European Commission signed the initialization of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and some days before the deadline for the future status of Kosovo, Stjepan Mesić, President of Croatia, visited Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement, in Brussels. They talked about the reforms that Croatia is planning to carry out and that might be finished at the end of 2008. Croatia needs to implement these reforms with the aim of moving closer to the EU, among others, the fight against corruption, but also reforms in the tourism area, in the fields of competition policy and State aids. Olli Rehn also warned the President of Croatia about the need to follow the agreement achieved in 2004 about the fisheries area with Slovenia and Italy. Finally, they spoke about the last developments in the region.
