On 16 January2018, Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the EC in charge of Better Regulation, Inter-Institutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights, and Jyrki Katainen, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, read out the weekly meeting of the Juncker Commission.
The first-ever Europe-wide strategy on plastics was adopted on the 16 January as part of the transition towards a more circular economy. Under the new plans, all plastic packaging on the EU market will be recyclable by 2030, the consumption of single-use plastics will be reduced and the intentional use of microplastics will be restricted. The Commission will scale up its support for national authorities and businesses, with an additional €100 million for financing the development of smarter and more recyclable plastics materials.
This video shows the read-out of the weekly meeting of the Juncker Commission by Frans Timmermans and Jyrki Katainen.
