On 22 March 2017, Markku Markkula, President of the Committee of the Regions, chaired the 122nd plenary session of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union (CoR), hosted by the European Parliament, in Brussels. On this occasion, Michel Barnier, Chief Negotiator and Head of the Taskforce of the EC for the Preparation and Conduct of the Negotiations with the United Kingdom under Article 50 of the TEU, gave a statement on the implication of the UK's decision to leave the EU for cities and regions. Then he took part to the debate with Members of the CoR.
