Visit of Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, to José Manuel Barroso: joint press briefing

On 30 August 2014, a few hours ahead of the European Union Council meeting, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, expressed "increased concern" with the security and the humanitarian situation in Eastern Ukraine. Talking to journalists after his meeting with Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, he said that recent opening of new fronts and the use of Russian regular forces was not acceptable and represented a grave transgression, warning that further escalation in the conflict could reach a "point of no-return".
