Visit of European religious leaders to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, and László Surján, Vice-President of the EP, received around twenty senior representatives from the Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Mormon communities. It was the tenth meeting of its kind.
The participants exchanged views on, amongst others, societal developments in and outside the EU, on Europe's role in the world and in the immediate neighbourhood, and on the part religions could play in this context. The participants also observed a minute's silence in respect of the victims of the tragic attack in the Jewish museum in Brussels on 24/05/2014 and adopted a Joint Declaration regarding Mariam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, a Sudanese Christian sentenced to death for apostasy.
