José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, held a joint press briefing with Robert Fico, Slovak Prime Minister, and Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the EC temporarily suspended from his duties at his personal request, after their meeting on 28 April 2014 in Bratislava. José Manuel Barroso and Robert Fico discussed a range of issues, including the economic evolution in Slovakia. They also discussed particularly the tense and troubled situation in Ukraine. They agreed to continue to work closely together to bring about a de-escalation of the situation and ensure that all parties fully implement the Geneva statement. The meeting took place two days before the tenth anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the European Union.
