Visit of Máire Geoghegan-Quinn to Athens: visit of the Acropolis Museum
On 2 April 2014, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Member of the EC in charge of Research, Innovation and Science, visited the Acropolis Museum in Athens. She was guided by Dimitrios Pandermalis, curator of the Acropolis Museum, and saw a demonstration of research infrastructure in action. High-power laser technology is used to preserve ancient works of art. She also experimented on a computer the CHESS project (Cultural Heritage Experiences through Socio-personal interactions and Storytelling), co-funded by the European Commission, that aims to integrate interdisciplinary research in personalization and adaptivity, digital storytelling, interaction methodologies, and narrative-oriented mobile and mixed reality technologies, with a sound theoretical basis in museological, cognitive, and learning sciences.
The principal objective of CHESS is to research, implement and evaluate both the experiencing of personalized interactive stories for visitors of cultural sites and their authoring by the cultural content experts.
