José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Bogotá where he met with Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia. It was the first time that a President of the EC visited the country.
Discussion focused on the implementation of the EU/Colombia Trade Agreement signed in August 2013, the solidarity and support of the EU to Colombia's peace and the future of their bilateral relations in the global context. The two Presidents agreed to launch negotiations for a broad Framework Agreement, which would be extensible to different areas of cooperation. The fight against climate change and how it could actively contribute to the reduction of poverty were also on the agenda.
José Manuel Barroso then visited the "Basta ya!" (Enough already!) exhibition with Gonzalo Sánchez, Director of the Historical Memory Center (HMC). The President eventually officially delivered 500,000 euros to Benposta – Nación de Muchachos under the EU Children of Peace initiative, created by the EU in 2012.
