Statement on Ukraine by José Manuel Barroso at the New Narrative for Europein Milan
On 9 December 2013, during his opening speech at the New Narrative for Europe conference in Milan, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, commented the current situation in Ukraine.
Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets in the Ukrainian capital Kiev seeking the resignation of the government for refusing a deal on closer ties with the European Union. Protesters oppose a customs union with Russia. President Viktor Yanukovych said he shelved the EU deal because it would put trade with Russia at risk. SHOTLIST
