Visit of Erna Solberg, Norwegian Prime Minister, to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Erna Solberg, Norwegian Prime Minister. It was the first visit to the EC of the latter since she took office on 16/10/2013. Discussions focused on cooperation between the EU and Norway, which was mainly based on the European Economic Area (EEA) and Schengen Agreements. Other issues including bilateral trade relations, a new multilateral arrangement on mackerel fishing and energy were also on the agenda.
During the joint press conference José Manuel Barroso notably stressed that the relationship between the EU and Norway was solid and of great value to both sides. He then welcomed the intention of the new Norwegian Government to pursue an even more active European policy, primarily through the EEA Agreement.
Regarding energy, the President highlighted that a substantial portion of EU energy supplies came from Norway, and these supplies were mutually beneficial, safe and secure. Broadening this open, reliable and transparent cooperation was in their common interest.
