Visit of Nicos Anastasiades, President of Cyprus, to José Manuel Barroso: extracts from the joint press briefing
On 27 November 2013, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Nicos Anastasiades, President of Cyprus, in Brussels.
They discussed financial assistance programme to Cyprus. José Manuel Barroso underlined that the Cypriot authorities implement the programme with determination. They discussed concrete means to reduce high levels of unemployment in Cyprus which is a top priority for the government.
An extra of 200 million euro was agreed as part of the future European Union budget for Cyprus. It should allow the country to invest in energy efficiency, support SMEs and create jobs, including by contributing to the funding for a youth guarantee. Energy and the Cyprus settlement issues were also discussed.
