Second EU Conference on Youth Employment, in Paris: extracts from the common press conference with the participation of José Manuel Barroso
On 12 November 2013, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Paris, France, where he participated in the 2nd EU Conference on Youth Employment with Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, Martin Schulz, President of the EP, François Hollande, President of the French Republic, Angela Merkel, German Federal Chancellor, and Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of Lithuania and President in office of the Council of the EU. After an initial meeting in Berlin in July 2013, the Heads of State or Government, Ministers for Labour, senior representatives of EU institutions and social partners met to discuss the implementation of concrete measures in the fight against youth unemployment.
In his speech, José Manuel Barroso urged the Member States to more determination to take the full potential of different levers to fight against unemployment and in particular to put in place the necessary structures to make the "Youth Guarantee" a reality as soon as possible.
