On 6 November 2013, László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, went to the North of Beijing to visit the Shouyun iron ore mine in the Miyun County. The site hosts a pilot project run jointly by the EC and the Chinese authorities to give practical experience of how best to safeguard the health and safety of workers in high risk sectors.
László Andor's visit to Beijing was an opportunity to pursue and further strengthen the European Commission's dialogue with China on employment and social policies in such areas as protecting employees health and safety at work and labour law, with a particular focus on how best to ensure consistent implementation and on the social protection reform due to be launched in China in 2014.
