Ceremony for the First Vietnamese protected denomination in Europe

On 15 July 2013, Loretta Dormal-Marino, Deputy Director-General at the Agriculture and Rural Development DG of the EC, handed over the Certificate of Protected Designation of Origin “Phú Quốc” to Ho Thi Kim Thoa, Vietnamese Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade. The EU supports better protection of geographical indications internationally due to the increasing number of violations throughout the world. The EU is active in multilateral and bilateral negotiations protecting EU geographical indications. In June 2012 the EU and Vietnam launched negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement with a view to ensuring an effective environment for trade and investment relations.
