José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in the EP plenary session which focused on the conclusions of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. In his speech the President applauded the dedication of the Irish team and the resulting successes, saying that they together made further progress in updating the EU's architecture to the pressures of the 21st century economy, showing that the lessons from the crisis had been learned. He then added that no deal was more important than the political deal reached on the Multiannual Financial framework (MFF) the week before.
