On 26 June 2013, Connie Hedegaard, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action, made a declaration where she welcomed the announcement of Barack Obama, President of the United States, on the intention to map out America's first climate change strategy, cutting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, shoring up coastlines against flooding and sea level rise, and helping advance an international climate deal.
