Participation of Viviane Reding in the debate on the Future of Europe, in Trieste
On 16 September 2013, Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, was in Trieste, Italy, to participate in a debate with 800 citizens from Italy and its neighbour countries Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
The Trieste Citizens' Dialogue was the highlight of a series of debates between citizens and leading European politicians about the key political themes for Italians. The choice of Trieste expressed the most important achievement of European integration: the overcoming of borders and the coming together of citizens from different countries in a spirit of openness, tolerance and mutual respect.
The debate was organised in the framework of the 2013 European Year of Citizens.
