Launch of the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change: Panel 3 - Mainstreaming adaptation - a combined effort

Adapting to climate change is crucial in order to reduce the risks and damage caused by the current and future impacts of climate change and exploit any possible benefits of it effectively. On 16 April 2013, the European Commission adopted a European Strategy on adaptation to climate change. This strategy was launched at a conference on 29 April 2013 bringing together political leaders and climate change adaption professionals. This one-day event was an occasion to present and discuss the new EU strategy, the framework it establishes, its main areas of intervention and the actions proposed. The main objective is to support the development of coherent adaptation policies within the EU at all levels and for all sectors. The participants in this debate include Janez Potočnik, Member of the EC in charge of Environment, Jerzy Bogdan Plewa, Director-General of the EC’s DG for Agriculture and Rural Development, Marco Onida, Secretary General of the Alpine Convention, and Matthew Arndt, Head of Environment, Climate and Social Policy at the EIB.
